Quotation of the month:

“Every day we see or read of appalling things happening in the world as the result of violence in man. You may say, 'I can't do anything about it', or, 'How can I influence the world?' I think you can tremendously influence the world if in yourself you are not violent, if you lead actually every day a peaceful life.”

J. Krishnamurthi, Freedom from the Known,118

July's Highlights

  •  We organized the Happy Tummy program- “Juka” (Stomach worm) awareness presentation and free medicine distribution.
  • Happy Tummy was covered by Image Channel, Saathi Sanga Mann ka Kura, Radio Nepal, Kantipur radio, Radio City, Radio Upateikka and ECS’s Friday magazine, Karobar Patrika, Commander Patrika.
  •  Kehi Garoun and Maya Universe Academy are planning a venture called “Walkabout”, targeting students in Kathmandu valley. The program aims to enrich the education of students in Kathmandu by exposing them to the way people live n villages in Nepal.

Changemakers of the Month

Picture
Prerana Manandhar has just completed her BBS and is waiting for her results.  She lives in Kamal Pokhari. She became a part of Kehi Garoun through the Happy Tummy program. She is very glad to get a chance to perform in a skit, and that too one that leads to awareness and improved health for poor government-school students. She shares that she didn’t get any chance to perform in front of an audience when she was in school/college.
What she likes about Kehi Garoun is that there is no hierarchy, and that everybody is equally valuable when making decisions, planning and executing programs. With unbounded enthusiasm, she has coordinated Happy Tummy events in 3 government schools. She is very happy that she has been using her free time in helping poor students.

Pravuti Rana studies IB in Ullens School and also is an active volunteer at Kehi Garoun. She is a compassionate individual who gets along with others easily. She has been involved in “Walk for Yourself”- a walkathon, the BMI project, and is now coordinating the Happy Tummy event for the second time. She admits to being shy in front of strangers/ people, but after being the coordinator twice for Happy Tummy, she is visibly more confident and can often be heard directing a large group of volunteers to work. She is extremely keen about Kehi Garoun’s mission and activities. She loves to do field work rather than theoretical work in a classroom!

Karma Dolma Gurung, a Ullens-KG circle volunteer, is currently studying the IBDP at Ullens School and takes great interest in studying and analyzing human behavior. Karma feels that working with KG through various ventures (MDMD, BMI machine, Happy Tummy), has made her accomplish her goal of becoming the “change agent” that she wishes to see in others.
“What I like about working with Kehi Garoun is that I am able to create my own experiments, and then learn from them. There is this entire team that gives you feedback throughout the process which has made Kehi Garoun (for me) such a special organization to work with. You not only help others but you allow yourself to fail, learn and grow.” says Karma.

Institutional Updates

  • Inflow  of Rs.1,34,835  against outflow of Rs. 1,07,115
  • Pallavi Mandandhar and Aashish Joshi who have been with Kehi Garoun since December 2012 and January 2013 respectively, will be leaving Kehi Garoun to pursue their future ventures. We are thankful for their unique contributions to Kehi Garoun's journey, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
