Dear KG Family,
KG volunteers and staff carried out a month long venture ( BMI ventures) installed in Bhatbhateni Super Market.   With the money we raised from that venture, we organized a Responsibility Walkathon, Volunteer engatements at Tarani School (stationery distribution, clean up, painting of the classroom walls and welcome-feast to the school students and teachers).

Lives that we touched...

Ramila Kamali is a second grader studying in Sri Arunyodhaya Ni. Ma. Vi (Dhoka tol). As per her teacher and gift applicant Ms. Bimala Adhikari, Ramila stays with her parents. Her family consists of four members. Her drunkard father is unable to work as he has a broken leg. The drinking habit is causing a lot of problems at home. Her mother’s work as a maid is the only source of income for the entire family. Her mother’s insufficient income cannot provide basic educational need for Ramila i.e. stationery and a bag. Though Ramila has many problems at home, she never shows them at school. She comes to school regularly and is an obedient and hard working student. Ramila wishes to study and come to school regularly.

Walk for Nepal in DC

On a bright sunny morning in Washington DC, more than 450 walkers came together to stand up for the NGOs they believed in. This program enables those NGO to stand up and raise for their causes. Through this walkathon each NGO will recognize more worthy causes that deserves everyone's support.12 KG Walkers walked  to support Kehi Garoun which was led by Pratigya.

BMI venture

On 6th April 2013, the BMI machine initiative was launched at the Bhatbhateni Supermarket, Baluwatar.  50% of the profit amount will go to the KG Gifts Program for stationery.

Mero Desh Merai Dayitwa: Walk for Yourself

“Merai Desh, Merai Dayitwa: Walk for Yourself”, is a walkathon program was held on on 28th April 2013. It was targeted towards youth who would take the responsibility for their society and their future.  After the walk, all the Ullens students, KG staffs and even students cleaning and painting the one storey school. Prem Subba and his friend Jeet Rai made the students' tummy happy with Kheer.

Clothes Donation

The remaining clothes from the Clothes Drive donated  to Mr. Jayjeed Hada of Committed Nepal. accompanied by one of his staff members to distribute to poor people staying in Sindhupal chowk.

Nepal Rastriya School- Interview with Shyam Maskey

“Theoretical knowledge cannot be converted into practical knowledge unless and until there is stationery.” says Mr. Shyam Maskey who is a science teacher in Nepal Rastriya School. 

Even though Mr. Maskey has put in his maximum effort to make his students understand the concepts in the science lessons, he is not able to communicate effectively because of the lack of scientific equipment.  He also regrets that there is no support for the students coming from their parents towards learning their lessons.  Most of the parents work as labourers, and they do not have the time or resources to help with their child’s educational development. Mr. Maskey says that at the time of report-card distribution, only one third of the parents turn up - mostly the mothers. 

According to him - stationery is a vital necessity. If students receive stationery supplies, they won’t betempted to steal from their friends, they will get a practical education, and it will be easier for them to concentrate on their studies. Mr. Maskey has identified  students who are in dire need of stationery.

Institutional Updates

• Income: Rs. 107K, Expenses: 81K
  
• KG walkers raised $700 from Walk for Nepal event in DC
  
• KG Circle - Ullens School raised enough support fund stationery for nearly 70 students from BMI machine
  
• 14 new enablers were added to the 'Council of Enablers'
  
• An alliance was formed with FCube where it will support KG as part of CSR
  
• KG is stable financially for a couple of month due to its funds coming in from ventures and enablers
